Movie: The Day the Earth Stood Still
I finally got to watch this movie, and I must say I was generally disappointed. I felt that it followed the original in many respects, but it felt unfinished, and did not really indicate that Humanity had gone thru any sort of change at all. There was no address to the United Nations, there was no collective mea culpa from the powers that be, there was no indication at all that Humanity had learned its lesson, which was the entire point of the movie.
In fact, most of Humanity is portrayed in a light that does not indicate that it deserved being saved. While the United States Government is being, as usual, imperious, overbearing, secretive and destructive, the rest of Humanity was rioting and looting in the streets. Not a great basis for an argument to save the species.
In terms of the special effects, I, being a big disaster movie buff, would have liked to see widespread destruction and mayhem, much like what was seen in Independence Day, Day After Tomorrow or War of the Worlds. There were a few sequences that were impressive, but they were only what I had seen in the trailers, for the most part, and did not go nearly far enough in my opinion.
The movie, in short, did not live up to what it could have been on many levels, and while I applaud the message, even that was not what was in the original concept; the “Coalition of Worlds” in the original movie was less concerned with our planet and its survival and more concerned that Humanity would spread it’s seeds of destruction through the universe.
I would recommend this movie, but I would not say it was spectacular.

Not sure that this is true:), but thanks for a post.
Have a nice day
